Physician Leaders Support Affordable Care Act Decision

July 11, 2012

More than 60% of respondents to an online poll of physician leaders who are members of the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) said they agreed with the US Supreme Court's recent decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act (ACA). About one-third of the respondents opposed the decision, and about 5% said they were unsure.

The potential cost of the ACA was a major sticking point for respondents who opposed the decision, and several wondered how the government planned to pay for it, according to the ACPE. Regardless of their opinions pro or con, many respondents expressed relief that a decision had been reached and voiced a desire to move forward with improving patient care.

ACPE is the nation's largest health care organization for physician leaders, with more than 10,000 members in 46 countries. Members include chief executive officers, chief medical officers, medical directors, and clinicians. To view the poll results, go to the ACPE Web site at http://www.acpe.org.
